Naturalistic and Slow Itinerary.(Hiking and Cycling)

The Three Villages create an area immersed in unspoilt nature, which is also perfect for trekking and cycling enthusiasts, given the numerous nature trails that climb the Sila Mountains.

For those who love cycling, the Val di Neto Cycle Route cannot be missed: an unforgetable bike ride along The Neto: a 38 km-long route through Rocca di Neto, Scandale, Strongoli, Belvedere Spinello, Santa Severina and Caccuri that allows you to get to know the history, landscape and natural beauty up close. Along the route it is also possible to leave the bike behind and devote oneself to nature, visiting archaeological sites and, why not, a pleasant kayak ride.

Starting from Caccuri, one can reach a magical place, full of charm and legends, by trekking to discover the Ghost Town of Carello Inferiore (a small abandoned village) located at the beginning of the Province of Cosenza, in the Municipality of San Giovanni in Fiore. Abandoned in the 1970s, it had about 300 inhabitants including neighbouring hamlets. Located in an area of high naturalistic value, the Middle Valley of the Neto River, the village is now a true ‘oasis of peace’. A magical place where one can savour the atmosphere of a bygone time, disturbed only by the singing of the birds and the rustling of the wind.

Calabria is well known for its Birdwatching Trails that have become popular in recent years. Carefully selected trails include Monte Fuscaldo, in the Municipality of Santa Severina: a beautiful natural area where the Mediterranean vegetation plays the leading role. The fauna here is rich and diverse. It is among the sites with the highest concentrations of Birds of Prey in the Province.

Walking in the waters in Castelsilano is possible and can be done in the Lese River, a tributary of the Neto River, which flows for a long stretch of its course in the Presilano Municipality. One will walk with one’s feet right in the water, ascending the course of the river for a route suitable for everyone of about 1.5 km.
Not only the charm of nature, going up the river,you will also come across breathtaking landscapes and the rich biodiversity of our Protected Areas, an old hydroelectric power station and an old mill can also be seen on this route.
